Recently I received a letter in the mail regarding one of my domains; it was from the “Domain Registry of America” and it looked pretty sketchy. Although, had I not known any better I probably would have taken this document (which looks like a bill) seriously and cut them a large check to renew my domain.
This is a company trying to use scare tactics to get you to transfer your domains to them. This organization is not a “registry,” in fact they appear to be a reseller for another domain registrar. They are just out to trick you into registering and renewing your domains at ridiculous prices. A Google search shows this has been going on for years.
If you haven’t received one of these yet, it’s probably only a matter of time. But if you do get one of these lovely notices in your mailbox, you should throw it right in the shredder.
