The ICANN has released the fourth version of the draft guide for the application of a new extension (312 pages, news ). The guide is open, as usual, to public comment until 21 July. What does not change in this new version is that the applicant must have patience and money.
The patient should be twofold:
1) The Final Guide for the creation of a new extension has not yet been approved, and therefore the receiving process has not been opened. The first version of the Guide is dated 24 October 2008 and had 97 pages. The roadmap of ICANN has been modified. For example, when he published the second version of the Guide (112 pages), announced on May 8 that the period for receipt of applications would be opened during the first quarter of 2010.
Now, according to the schedule based on web seminar ( webinar ) that performed after Nairobi member of the ICANN Board Bruce Tonkin , the final guidance would be ready by December 2010. Between April and July 2011 could open the period for receipt of applications.
2) In the fourth version of the life cycle of an application faster for 8 months ( page 20 ). Depending on various factors, including the objections to the new extension, can last 19 months ( page 20 ) to its approval. It makes clear that for complex applications, the processing time can be much higher at 19 months.
This process will be available only to corporations, organizations and institutions ( p. 25 ) and shall pay to send the request $ 185,000 ( page 42 ). It can recover some of this money depending on which point the process gets the request before the applicant decides to withdraw. The ultimate recoverable once sent are $ 130,000. Also, depending on the complexity of processing an application you can charge additional fees ( page 44 ).
