The city of Paris has lost another lawsuit via UDRP. The city tries to get domains with the word Paris believing it has exclusive rights to any domain that contains the word Paris. This time the domain that has failed is Paris.tv (Case Ville de Paris v. Paris.TV LLC).
He had previously sent two letters Cease & Desist to the domain owner in 2006. The owner of the domain (as did the owner of Paris.com) sued the city of Paris by virtue of the Lanham Act (Tortuous Interference with contract and defamation). This case was dismissed in August 2007.
In both cases, Paris was silent. Rarely responds to correspondence from lawyers. He also argued that it is not subject to U.S. jurisdiction (Paris recently sued in the French courts to the domain owner Paris.org).
In 2009 Paris returned to the fray with demands UDRP trying to get domains with the word "Paris". In this case alleged confusion with their trademark and the multimedia section of Paris.fr which houses the city's official website.
