Android rocks. Let’s bring some domain apps to it.
At least one research firm is saying that the Android mobile operating system passed the iPhone in sales this past quarter.
This really shouldn’t come as any surprise. We’re repeating history. Apple brings out a product but tightly controls distribution (AT&T only) and what software can be used on the product (ask anyone who has had their app rejected).
Android, on the other hand, is available on a number of devices at multiple carriers and anyone can create software for it without asking Steve Jobs for permission. It’s a no-brainer.
Last week I got my Droid Incredible on Verizon. I was waiting for the iPhone, but that won’t come until at the earliest next year. And I have to say I dig the Droid. Most of the good apps on the iPhone are also available on Droid, and this phone integrates very nicely with all of my Google applications.
So here’s a message to domain name companies: if you’re thinking about developing an app for the iPhone, make one for Android as well. Or even instead of an iPhone app.
